Tips for Managing Menopause Symptoms
If you are struggling with hot flashes and insomnia, you may be wondering how to manage your menopause symptoms. Let’s talk about some of the things you can do to help alleviate these pesky symptoms so you can get back to your life.
Hot Flashes & Night Sweats
There are a few things you can do to help with night sweats, such as:
- Exercising regularly
- Wearing loose, cotton night clothes
- Using cotton sheets and a light blanket
- Keeping your bedroom cool at night
- Using an ice pack wrapped in a towel
- Taking a cool shower, using a fan or having a cold drink to cool down
- Limit alcohol, caffeine, and spicy food as they have been known to trigger hot flashes
- Stop smoking
Mood Changes
This is a common symptom of menopause. Low mood and anxiety during menopause can be frustrating. To help improve your mood try to get enough sleep, exercise regularly, practice mindfulness, and try relaxing activities like yoga, meditation, and tai chi.
Vaginal Dryness and Discomfort
Often, the vagina can become dry, painful, and itchy during menopause. To combat this, your menopause specialist can prescribe oestrogen treatment. This comes in the form of a vaginal ring, pessary, cream or gel that goes inside the vaginal. This is safe to use in combination with HRT.
Additionally, we recommend using cotton panties and avoiding scented soaps and fragrances.
Low Libido
Many women experience changes to their sex life during menopause. Reduced sexual desire can occur for a few reasons.
First, vaginal dryness and discomfort make sex painful or uncomfortable. Night sweats affect your sleep and energy for sex. Emotional changes make you feel too upset or stressed for sex. And decreased hormones reduce your sex drive. There are many ways to improve this, including hormone replacement therapy, PRP injections and laser treatment for vaginal rejuvenation.
HRT for Menopause Symptoms
While there are many things you can do in your daily life to help manage your menopause symptoms, the most effective way is often through hormone replacement therapy. This can be used in combination with lifestyle changes to help you feel your best during menopause. To learn more, please contact the Menopause Center today to schedule a consultation.
