The Menopause Center is proud to offer Mona Lisa Touch laser therapy treatment. Mona Lisa Touch is an innovative, nonsurgical treatment that regenerates vaginal tissues and helps relieve a variety of vaginal health issues.
What Is Mona Lisa Touch?
Mona Lisa Touch is a medical procedure that delivers a type of therapy known as fractional CO2 (carbon dioxide) laser energy to soft tissues, such as the tissue in the vagina.
This gentle laser treatment can regenerate healthier vaginal tissue safely and effectively. It provides patients with a hormone-free, medication-free solution to a range of pelvic health conditions.
What Conditions can Mona Lisa Touch Treat?
The estrogen levels decrease during menopause and many women experience vaginal atrophy or thinning. The vaginal tissue may become inflamed causing burning, itching, discomfort, and pain with intercourse.
Vaginal atrophy may cause:
- Painful penetration and intercourse
- Vaginal discomfort or bleeding
- Urinary frequency
Treatment with Mona Lisa Touch may help reverse conditions related to menopause-related vaginal atrophy. And for younger women, it can help tighten up stretched vaginal tissue (known as vaginal laxity) that can result after childbirth.
Vaginal rejuvenation may have a direct effect on your life and your relationship with your partner. It can restore your satisfaction and revive your relationship! No more suffering in silence.
Vulva disorders treated with Mona Lisa Touch:
- Lichen Sclerosis
- Vulvodynia
- Dyspareunia (sexual pain)
The vulva disorders above are often difficult to treat. The Mona Lisa Touch offers a different modality for treatment, and while not a cure, this laser has been shown to help.
A vulva laser probe is used to treat the skin of the vulva around the vaginal opening in any area of the vulva involved in the above disorders. Dr. Melinda Hall is a specialist in vulvovaginal disorders and will make the proper recommendation based on your particular vulva problem and exam.
What Happens During a Mona Lisa Touch Treatment?
Your treatment with Mona Lisa Touch occurs in our office and requires only topical anesthetic treatment. During your treatment, Dr. Hall inserts a small probe into your vagina. The probe delivers gentle laser energy to your vaginal tissues. The vaginal treatment lasts only about five minutes.
The laser energy delivered by Mona Lisa Touch stimulates the vagina to form new blood vessels and increase the production of collagen and elastin, two proteins that contribute strength and elasticity to the vaginal tissues.
Most women can return to their normal routine the day after having Mona Lisa Touch treatment.
Why Choose Mona Lisa Touch Over Other Treatments?
If you have problems related to vaginal atrophy, you may find relief from vaginal moisturizers, vaginal lubricants, or vaginal hormone creams. Treatment with Mona Lisa Touch provides an alternative to lubricants and estrogen.
Its mild laser energy boosts healthy tissue in the vagina and may enhance the intrinsic production of lubrication.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The starting protocol for vaginal dryness is three treatments spaced about four to six weeks apart. Treatment touch-ups once a year are recommended
Vulva disorders, such as lichen sclerosus may require additional treatments initially for optimal control of the vulva problem. Touch ups will be every six to twelve months, depending on the response.
Does Mona Lisa Touch Treatment Cause Side Effects?
Most women tolerate their treatments very well. Some women experience minor, temporary side effects such as vaginal discharge, tenderness, itching, or burning. A watery discharge is common for a few days after the procedure.
